Tom Marsh ROI RSMA

About Tom
Tom is a member of both the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, with his work regularly exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London. He also serves on the judging panel for the prestigious annual summer exhibition of The Hampstead Art Society.
Growing up in New Zealand, Tom was introduced to oil painting at an early age by his father, and it was during his childhood that his deep appreciation for light and shadow first took root. At just sixteen, Tom was accepted as a member of the Society of Architectural Illustrators, marking the beginning of his professional journey.
Tom later honed his craft with a degree in Illustration from the University of Kent at Canterbury.
The stunning landscapes and dynamic light of New Zealand continue to influence Tom's work today. Now based in Battle, he draws inspiration from the local countryside, coastline, marine environments, and the vibrant energy of London. An avid practitioner of the plein air tradition, Tom captures the ever-changing nuances of light in his oil paintings, bringing the world around him to life on canvas.

Painting outside - My kit and materials.
For plein air painting I use a pochade box mounted onto a standard camera tripod easel.
I was lucky enough to meet and paint with Karl Terry - a wonderful artist and now great friend http://www.karlterry.co.uk/
He really helped me understand painting outdoors and the best places to eat and warm up!
I paint on gesso primed boards with Michael Harding Oil paints.
